Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August in India. Celebration of ‘Friendship Day‘ celebrations started in the West, but in India too, it has been becoming popular among the youth for the past few years. People greet each other on greeting cards, social media and SMS on this day.

History of Friendship Day
Friendship Day originated in America in 1935. It is said that on the first Sunday of August, the US government killed an innocent person and in whose sorrow his friend committed suicide. After which the South American people were offered a proposal to celebrate International Friendship Day in front of the US Government.
After this incident, the government had earlier refused to accept this proposal of the people, but in order to calm their anger, the US government later approved this proposal in about 1958 after 21 years. After the first Sunday of August, Jake started to celebrate Friendship Day.
